Windows Management Experts (WME) is looking for a Principal Platform Engineer role in AIX for one of our valued clients. Our new resource will be responsible for managing our large, complex AIX environment proficiently. That said, the candidate is expected to engineer new solutions and maintain an optimized level of performance from AIX systems.
This will be a leadership role on the platform engineering team tasked with ensuring that architecture & engineering tasks are managed in a consistent way. The candidate is expected to assume an engineering role to design Proof-Of-Concept (POC) and deliver solutions based on our unique business requirements and best technical practices for AIX.
We are seeking a highly resourceful individual who’ll configure & maintain UNIX, Linux and system software quite dependably. That said, the resource will ensure everything is predictable on our side as far as AIX management is concerned. From providing hardware, backup, and recovery to monitoring systems and applications, everything will be her responsibility.
In fact, the resource will be a part of a larger technical team that is supposed to work in active collaboration to solve complex problems for the organization. It will require a strong grip on UNIX operating system, and strong analytical skills, a sharp sense of logic, splendid problem-solving skills, and an orientation to detail.
All in all, WME is looking for some exceptional communication and interpersonal skills in our new team member. The candidate’s toolbox must be complete and diverse. From being technically savvy to displaying a vigorous passion for learning beyond his traditional areas of expertise, the resource must prove to be an asset to the company.
Must Have Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience as an enterprise-level Engineer building and supporting modern AIX Power infrastructure in a large-scale environment (PowerVM, SRIOV, HACMP, SRV, etc.).
- 5+ years of experience managing production incidents in an enterprise environment.
- 3+ years of experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python, KSH, etc.).
- 5+ years of experience with AIX operating system to include tuning and systems performance.
- 3+ years of experience with Software Defined Infrastructure (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, etc.).
- 2+ years of experience working with GIT or other modern version control systems.
Required Skills/Qualifications/Education:
- Experience with designing production systems on the Power platform.
- Expert level experience with managing AIX operating system.
- Experience with working across teams to gather requirements and create solutions.
- Experience with communicating complex technical ideas to diverse audiences.
- Experience with building code from source on AIX platforms.
- Experience with BCP planning to include design and execution.
- Experience with AIX virtualization technologies to include design and capacity planning.
- Understanding of agile and traditional software development processes.
- Skilled in system-level architecture like Linux or Windows
- Sound Knowledge of Unix.
- Proficient with automated single-click deployment, configuration management, and production support
- Knowledge of Shell scripting
- Working experience in a 24×7 environment.
- Well-organized personality with great attention to minimalistic details.

Responsibilities of an Exemplary Principal Platform Engineer in AIX:
- Contributes to the engineering efforts of the team by actively participating in technical projects to support the evolving needs of the business.
- Engineers solutions for deployment, performance management, and maintenance of AIX based systems with an emphasis on the quality of design.
- Works with teams across the enterprise to build modern, scalable solutions leveraging both on-premises and cloud technologies where appropriate.
- Maintains existing solutions in shell, Perl, and C.
- Supervises disaster recovery, security, audit, and tool support.
- Uses sharp analytical and programming skills to build automation for engineered solutions.
- Responds to system APIs and performance-related queries from application developers.
- Adheres to the company’s standards in all areas.
- Conducts research and runs proof-of-concept (POC) implementations for new solutions.
- Facilitates a collaborative team environment that encourages growth through participation.
- Develops self-service infrastructure provisioning, maintains delivery pipelines, log and monitoring services
- Improves AIX platform’s effectiveness to speed up delivery and augment product flexibility
- Monitors, improves, and fixes the AIX platform on a day-to-day basis.
- Runs effective processes to troubleshoot diverse operational issues related to AIX.
- Collaborate with other organizational teams and key stakeholders to understand and contribute to user requirements and then implement customized solutions.
