Windows Management Experts (WME) is seeking a motivated and experienced Linux Consultant Role to join one of our client companies. Your primary focus will be on overseeing and participating in the patching processes of their Linux (Red Hat) and Windows Server environments. In fact, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring their systems are robust and up-to-date.

Your expertise in Linux, particularly with Red Hat, will be key as you lead the charge in utilizing Ansible for seamless patch management. Similarly, your knowledge of Windows Server environments will be critical, as you will be managing patches through Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and Intune. These tools are essential in our toolkit. So, your proficiency in them will ensure we stay ahead in managing our IT infrastructure.

But this role is about more than just technical skills. We’re looking for someone who can think critically about system vulnerabilities. Your role will involve not just applying patches, but also understanding the ‘why’ behind them.

That said, you will be responsible for all the aspects of Linux administration. You should demonstrate great skill in creativity and innovation, the ability to thrive in a pressure environment, and possess excellent communication skills. Also, the successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual, who can work effectively in dynamic conditions and within deadlines.

Note: We expect you to work 40 hours/week for the first 6 weeks, and then 20 hours/week for the following 5 weeks.

Required Skills/Qualifications/Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology as its major coursework.
  • 5+ years of experience in Linux Support.
  • Proven experience in managing and patching Linux systems, particularly Red Hat.
  • Proficiency in using Ansible for automation and configuration management.
  • Expertise in Windows Server administration and patching.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and Intune.
  • Strong understanding of system vulnerabilities and security patches.
  • Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware issues.
  • Knowledge of IT security standards and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Good communication skills for collaboration with IT teams and vendors.
  • Experience in conducting security assessments and audits.
  • Ability to document procedures and configurations.
  • Commitment to staying updated with the latest technology trends and updates.

Preferred Certifications:

  • LPIC-1: Linux Administrator
  • Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS)

Responsibilities of the Desired Linux Consultant:

  • Lead and execute Linux (Red Hat) patching processes using Ansible.
  • Implement Windows Server patching with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager.
  • Utilize Microsoft Intune for the management and security of devices.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for efficient system patching.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with the latest security patches and updates.
  • Collaborate with IT teams for patch testing and deployment strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for patch management tools.
  • Troubleshoot patch deployment issues on Linux and Windows servers.
  • Keep documentation up-to-date for patch management procedures.
  • Conduct regular security assessments to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Optimize existing patching processes for improved efficiency.
  • Coordinate with vendors for patch-related support.
  • Manage patching schedules to minimize impact on business operations.
  • Participate in security audits and provide insights for improvements.
  • Ensure timely resolution of problems.
