Windows Management Experts (WME) is looking for a Cloud Migration Engineer (IBM Mainframe to Azure cloud ) role for one of our valued partners. In this role, you’ll be leading a major migration project, migrating their clunky IBM mainframe systems to the agility of Microsoft Azure.
Your in-depth knowledge of IBM mainframe architecture and migration methodologies will be essential in planning the transition. Furthermore, you’ll be expected to possess a strong understanding of Microsoft Azure, including its core services like Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure networking, etc.
To ensure a successful migration, you’ll leverage your expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like ARM templates to automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration. That said, your proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell will be crucial for automating migration tasks.
Security will be paramount, so a solid understanding of Azure security services like Azure Active Directory and Azure Security Center is a must. Finally, your ability to leverage Azure monitoring tools like Azure Monitor will be vital for optimizing performance. Lastly, the successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual, who can work effectively in dynamic conditions and within deadlines. That said, the preferred candidate should expect to work 40 hours per week and should be flexible enough to work part-time hours as well.
Required Skills/Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Proven experience with IBM Mainframe systems.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud services.
- Hands-on experience with cloud migration projects.
- Proficiency in programming languages like COBOL, Java, or C#.
- Familiarity with DB2, SQL Server, or other relevant databases.
- Understanding of DevOps practices / tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing / coordinating technical projects.
- Strong verbal / written communication.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Flexible and adaptive to changing project requirements.
- Keen eye for detail to ensure smooth transitions.
- Relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect.
- Understanding of cloud security best practices.

Responsibilities of the Desired IBM Mainframe-to-AZURE Migration Engineer:
- Hands-on delivery of enterprise IBM Mainframe-to-AZUREÂ Migration solutions.
- Evaluate existing mainframe systems for cloud readiness.
- Develop detailed migration plans & timelines.
- Design cloud-based solutions custom to business needs.
- Perform the actual migration of applications & data.
- Conduct thorough testing to ensure functionality post-migration.
- Identify & resolve issues during / after the migration.
- Optimize cloud infrastructure for performance & cost.
- Maintain clear, detailed documentation of migration processes.
- Train internal teams on new cloud systems & practices.
- Set up, monitor cloud environments for stability & performance.
- Implement security measures to protect data.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements & provide updates.
- Provide ongoing support & maintenance post-migration.
- Stay updated on new tools & technologies to improve migration processes. Gather feedback from users to continuously improve cloud solutions.
